Montenegro
Like Croatia, Montenegro has a reputation for rich culture and natural beauty but is lesser known by the world at large, perhaps because it has a very small Adriatic coastline. But, it is becoming more and more known, as it is quite open to and deserving of tourism.

Montenegro and Croatia have a complex relationship stemming from shared history and cultural ties, including periods of unification and separation. They are both former Yugoslav republics and now maintain diplomatic relations and are NATO allies. Despite a latent border dispute and some historical tensions, their relations are largely amicable.

Montenegro does have the Bay of Kotor and with it numerous hamlets that lie on the bay as you snake your way in from the Adriatic Sea.

One of the most prominent of these is Kotor. The Old Town of Kotor is a compact, beautiful walled medieval city of twisting streets reflecting Byzantine to Venetian influences. Hike the wall into the mountains if you can!
